Hate to harp, but, if you’re reading this, you should really take a few short, but satisfying minutes and call 311 to complain. The way that they divert people to walk in the street and set up cranes to lift heavy bits of steel over the heads of school kids. An accident seems–sadly–inevitable. (Photo is from week of 2/4.) Thanks.

…but of the two people who run this blog, the more reliable one has fled to Argentina. Still not sure why. Ft. Greene is an awfully nice place…

I hope Clinton Hill gets its rumored bookstore, and I hope that the eventual location is in close proximity to Fort Greene. I know that conventional wisdom says indie bookstores can’t make it anymore, but I also know a large number of people in the neighborhood who would help this new store prove that theory wrong.

Tonight, Gnarly Vines is hosting Ignacio Carballido as he offers tastings of Mezcal — an underappreciated liquor from Mexico. In keeping with the general theme, they’ll also be serving chips and salsa. 6-9pm.

We’ll be posting our own review later in the week…

I’m pretty sure it’s continuing through the afternoon (corner of Fulton and South Portland), if anyone is feeling the need for a little pick-me-up…

Good article with all sorts of arcana on Ft. Greene’s favorite way to tell that you’re running late.

Hi — apologies for sort of falling off the radar there. Now that the holidays are sort of almost over, we’ll hopefully get our technical woes taken care of and be back in form in the next week or so.
Happy New Year!!

At around eleven last night (give or take, I was asleep when it happened), an apartment on the top floor of 99 Lafayette, between South Portland and South Oxford, caught fire or suffered an explosion. I was awoken by the windows shattering. The firepeople proceeded to break the rest of the windows and then shoot the firehouse out of them. They never turned on any lights, which suggests a gas leak (or a meth lab), right? At any rate, it didn’t seem to be a typical fire.
It also didn’t seem like there was anyone in the apartment when the accident happened.
Anyone got the scoop?
